Asalaamu alikum,

I always support the building of masjids. However, I don't understand why there needs to be two masjids on one road? :| (I'm talking about this in general)

We could host big conferences if this does go through insha-allah, and the more space I get to breathe the better. It could also be used as a major place for non-muslims to gather and learn about Islam, in this way we could get rid of any misunderstandings and better 'social cohesion.'

Advo seriously you need to think before you post...try telling that to the Muslim communities who go to those 500 small masjids near their homes? its very convenient for them, they &their children can just step of of their houses and straight into the Masjid or at the most walk a little. Mise you want all those masajid to shut down and make those people commute daily to that Monstrous Mosque.Do you honestly believe that people will wake up in the dead of night drive down, to pray Fajr at some huge stadium like masjid on the other side of town???

Im grateful for the masjids in my area..Grateful for the community atmosphere grateful that i can meet up with different people who live in the same area as me..grateful that i wont be exhausted with saying salaams..grateful that i will not get lost for god knows how long trying to find the toilet/wuduu areas..grateful that i can go straight up to the Imam without joining a never ending queue...grateful for the lack of noisy hordes ..that i can go home without a splitting headache ..or hurting feet..grateful that there isnt any navigation problems.

E-Sister is 100% right. If this even takes off it will be the biggest embarrassment for Muslims in Britain. We don't need a 70.000 capacity Masjid, for various reasons. The most important being the potential loss of the local communities. I'm pretty happy with the Mosque down the road for me, most of the lads I know pray there and it's a meeting point for everyone in the local community. Why change that for a massive plastic velodrome who will only get anywhere near full on Friday Prayers + the 2 Eid prayers. It's a pointless project to be honest and it's a total waste of money.

And I won't even go into the logistic of this. Tens of thousands of people gathered into one place will cause a huge headache, massive traffic logistic problems. Ever been to a football match? Ever been to Old Trafford to watch Man Utd? 76.000 fans getting out of the ground itself takes 45 minutes, it's a nightmare.

Why try and fix something that is not broke?

I agree, Its there money if they want to build a mosque, thats up to them.

and not only is it intended to be a mosque for prayer, but a learning center, with library and a academic instition etc. Why would anyone be against it? Its not like the other mosques will be demolished. Let them do what they want with their money.

E-sista, how very pessimistic of you. Lets hope you are proven wrong and the generations to come don't forget so easily.

As for this Masjid, great idea, its a landmark and I can easily see it full. However that money can be used for other communities that actually don't have community centres nor Masjids. I never understood the need for so many Masjids in the same area in the major cities till I experienced Leicester and Blackburn, disivion.

I understand what you mean. We had many mosques in our small city too because of disagreements between the wadaads but eventually all the new mosques shut down and the main one remained open.

you mean London Central Mosque/Islamic Cultural Centre (ICC)? it was said that it was designed to accomadate 4,500 people, but the figure goes as high as 6,000 during summer where some people pray in the mosque's open forecourt. and during the two Eids 50,000 muslims visit the moque, they offer the Eid(s) in six batches on average.
