You have to admit the good that he did and the positive ideologies which he stood for

BlackVelvet,

The irony is that he did not practice what he preached i.e. the tribal war against the Issaq, the Hawiye and the Majeerten.

He did at the beginning and that counts for something. The same way you openly acknowledge the qabiil based attacks you also have to acknowledge the improved literacy, the equality, the job opportunities that he brought along. It's a two way street sxb

2 sides of the same coin.

You are saying that some people praise him without seeing his faults - granted. However at the same time you seem to want to point out all his faults without acknowledging his strengths. A bit biased from both sides, walk to the middle and see everything for what it was.

BV,

The issue here is about Barre's speech against tribalism and how he purported that he was against tribalism when in the end, he helped start the first cycle of large scale tribal warfare. Under his leadership, the Somali National Army became a tool of repression and attacked its own citizenry.

It's like that parable of the winter night where each man is clutching to his single plank of wood for fear that the man he doesn't like will benefit from the heat of the communal fire.

Guys get over it. Siyaad did a heck of a lot of good at the beginning of his rule (fact) Siyaad said he would fight qabiil (fact) Siyaad succumbed to the evil he vowed to fight (fact)

Don't get caught up on a single fact.

Abdihutu & his donkeys used to sing Jaalle Siyaad aabihii garashodoo, hantiwadaaga waa kacaanka sooomaliyeed, now the donkey is loose and bad mouthing Marxuum Siyaad ilaahey janadii fardowsa ha ka waraabiyee.

MSB is the best thing that ever happen to our relatively young nation, MSB made some bad decision which is normal cause people do mistakes that is why we are humans but trust me MSB did more good then bad, same thing can not be said about USC mooryaan and currently Alshiishkabaab.
