Obviously these men are not Ahlu Sunnah. Ahlu Sunnah knows its boundaries don't go beyond the central regions.
I have two guesses on what the men are doing in Puntland:
1. they simply wanted to attend, but i don't know why they'd travel so much for a conference composed of Puntland ulema
2. they are al-shabaab marehan who want to rally puntland wadaads in helping turn back ahlu-sunnah, this could be the real answer

To be honest Ahlu Sunnah whopped Shabab's ass several times in Gobolada Dhexe. If this really was Ahlu Sunnah they would be welcomed as they are the buffer standing between Shabab and Puntland the past couple of years.
There have been contacts between Marehan Hisbul islam Al Itihad and Puntland Al Itihad loyalists for 4 months now.
In reality, no one has more Al Itihad sympathizers and former supporters than MJ and MR. The MR Al Itihad think it is an "obligation" for them to take the cause up there.
The Hawiye just learned about all of this religious stuff the last year and the Isaaq are an outlier.
Al-Itihaad is the father of al-Shabaab.
They first conquered Puntland through deeds and guns in the early 90s, were defeated and then they established their bases in Buuraha Calmadow and Laasqoray. Can you believe that Al-Itihaad looted the small port of Laasqoray and its original Fish Plant, which was much bigger than the privately held one. The latter was built much much later in a different location. Some people confuse the latter with former government owned plant. They were defeated by Ilka-jiir through guns, incentives, and safe exit to their seperate native towns and villages.
Then Al-Itihaad went to Gedo and established themselves there. Ethiopians had intervened on several ocassions together with clan militias led by Gen. Masale.
Ahmed gurey exactly bro, i don't take al-itihaad lightly the war with them in the early 90's is still fresh in ppl's memory. But it was sorted out and that is what matters. However wat shocks me is why doesn't hawiye who are dealing with extremist in the south ask puntland advice about solving it, because we went thru this disaster and know it first-hand. I just don't get How hawiye operate sometimes.

Why did they only go to Darod regions? Doesn't that mean Darod are the most religious people in Somalia?
