Lol @ this lo-jir talking about Mareexaan. Unlike you who has to collect Isaaq baa qamadi ama geed qurac isku dilay, Mareexaan history is well recorded and beyond anything you will reach.

Most of the words you regard as common words originated in camel-husbandery, for instance Dhocil has its origin in camels and then it was applied to humans, even names such as Good and Sulub were camel names that were adopted to humans.
So, you're saying Somalis didn't have words for who was young, old, bad, good, etc until they went into the business of camel-husbandry? One day they discovered a particular camel was old, and voila they invented the word duq for it?

What's x.Keyse lying about?

Here's facts not rumors.

Isaaqs rival Ciise Riyooles in goat-herding.

Though he's right about Marexaan & Hawiye herding cattle, they also herd camels more per capita than Isaaq according to that data.

What is this kid talking about? Mareexaan never herded cattle. Ogaadeen and Hawiye did that and the Habar Yoonis in Sanaag. Majeerteen never had the resources for grazing cattle so they were fisherman which was a poor man's job in old Somali culture but Marehan have always been horses and camels. Even the small Harti wamo herded cattle but we did not. If we herded cattle, we would not have had the culture to conquer the south and lead a territory to be given by a colonial power to another colonial power for free, as a way to get rid of a burden.

Also, the counted camels of a one smaller-end Marehan sub-clan, the Talxe, was alone more than all other camels from all other clans combined in Jubbaland.
1. Talxe (Mareexaan) - 167,000 Camels
2. Bartire (Absame) - 93,000 Camels
3. Cawliyahan (Absame) - 50,000 Camels
4. Clans living around the coast (Bajuuni) - 5,000 Camels

Total Camels - 315,000

Even if (Bartire, Cawliyahan and Bajuuni) combined their stock (148,000), Talxe remains the top holder.

Everybody has their sources. I'd rather trust NGO data from 20 years ago UNDER SOMALI GOVERNMENT SUPERVISION than some 19th century Italian explorer's visit to a small string of villages.

My data says different, Mr. Cattle Rancher.

As always, you seem to be lost in the discussion. Xplaya said "traditionally" and traditionally Marehan was not a cattle people. You, the Habar Yonis Lo-Jir, Hawiye, and Ogaden were. The quintessentiall Somali culture that was known for being fierce and war-like were the camel nomads and that is how the Marehan got the culture to be written in European history books dealing with East Africa during colonialism.

If you are talking about now, Marehan has even learned and accepted farming. They are becoming civilized.

If Siad Barre convinced Somalis to accept fish-eating, why couldn't he led his own clan to rear cattle?

dhulbahante has/had the most horses out of all somali tribes. this was the main reason behind our famous massive cavalry charges of the 19th century!.
