Let me guess your favourite poem of his, then — is it Al-aaraaf, the one that is based on the Quran, about people whose bad and good deeds balanced out and as a result live on a star between Hell & Heaven? Edgar was the one. I like his poems (The Raven, in particular) but not as much as I love his stories. The lines I've read the days of yore in The Pit and the Pendulum still murmur through my lips in delirium horror & token appreciation of the unique writing style — ''... as if those who bore me (a ghastly train!) had outrun, in their descent, the limits of the limitless, and paused from the wearisomeness of their toil.''
