Well, it's their imperative. Personal responsibility. As long as the family's needs are accounted for, expenditure on khat is no problem.

Peer-reviewed studies have alluded to this, but every country where this lack of productivity was apparent had a non-existent private sector while the public sector was inefficient.

It's amazing how chewing qat amongst females is tolerated amongst yemenis, my friend was telling me how she and her fellow yemenis would get together and chew in one of their houses. These girls reside in the U.K and were about 17-18 at the time.

Sadly yes. Just like Somalia chewed itself up.. Yemen now is at bloody war with zeyedi qabiil. I guess its all start with khat. I guess the immigrant somali in yemen influenced them.
