It has to be deeply imprinted in all our minds that Ogaden must be free. Beesha Haber Gider stands at the fore front and won't move inch on this sacred belief.
Ogaden is still always in our hearts and thoughts, inshalla Allah swt would eventuall grant us victoruy in this matter since we refuse to bend

Galia, quit being stupid. That war single handily destroyed Somalia, the country was pretty much bankrupt because of it.

You don't need to fight a war to liberate places.

the reasons for going to war was complicated and many, and in the end Siad Barre had a choice of sending a mobilized and trained population against a great uniting cause against an enemy, or having that same energy destroy itself from within

Ogaden could've been secured through diplomacy, if we had an administration which had an ounce of intelligence and wasn't on the brink of bankruptcy even before the civil war, we could have capitalized on Ethiopia's plight after Eritrea effectively banned them from Assab. Take into account Djibouti being sympathetic to any goals Somalia has and Ethiopia's reliance on foreign aid, only allowing access to Somali/Djiboutian ports with the condition that Ogaden was once again made part of Somali territory would have been foolproof.

There would have been zero chance of refusal.

Sadly we had a reer badiiye for a President.

No worries; the dream of Greater Somalia will come true sooner rather than later. All we need is to understand the value of Soomaalinimo by re-uniting under the great splendid flag of ours, and by taking ourselves out of the misery that has earned us the current instability and political chaos that we're in.

lets be reallistic here..I know Somalis can be strong and defeat their enemy..but that is not the problem..we Somalis are our own worst the enemy..our true enemy doesnt even have to do anything..all they need to do is give us guns..divide us into clans or religious sect's..then we will do all the dirty work and kill eachother bomb our cities and country back to the stone age..as long as we are doing this there wont be Somalia or strong Somali people..

Hyperactive, in retrospect I don't think there is anyone alive who does not see the Ogaden War was the beginning of Somalia's end but the reasons for going to war cannot be rethought. Every single Somali was in support of going in and were leading their government to war. We won the war and defeated the Ethiopians, but who thought the Russians would take the war personally in a African backwater and get in a way no one, not even the U.S, believed was possible.

Fidel Castro, the Cuban dictator say "no cooperation ever took place in the communist world that happened in the Ogaden war"

Also Hyper remember the Ogaden region being synonimized with Ogadeen qabiil and ONLF only started in late 70's. Before everyone knew it as somali galbeed and even the rebels fighting in the WSLF (Western Somali Liberation Front) were Somali soldiers in rebel clothes.

voltage i understand what you`re saying but western somalia rebels where native in that region and started with makhtal dahir way before independence.

what im sayiung and my relatives sayuing is: would be better if give support and weapons to natives instead an independent country to rage a war to another independent country for stolen land!!

if that was allowed all african and middle east would be in total mess and war all over the 3rd war.

in my opinion it should only do support in weapen to the native people, the case would be more effective and world would know us as people who`re taken their human rights!!!

hyperactive you fcuking dumb nacas, just get it through your thick head that we had to help Ogaden peps because they are fcuking somalis just like you and me.
How can any somali government stand and watch while somalis gets humiliated by any enemy in their own land?
What we did was the right thing, we just had bad luck thats all.

In retrospect, you are right. I think it would have been a completely different thing if we had continued to support the rebels and framed the issue as "ethiopian domestic problem" instead of argument between two countries.
