Having said all of the above, I would like to admit that woman in the Islamic societies are oppressed to some extent and only the proper implementation of the Shariah can liberate then of such opressions.

I am not sure if you have inside information about the man and his faith but if we were judge him on the words written above then what you seem to be accusing him of is very unfair, my friend. Is it what he is saying or what you think he is saying? This is his last line. Read it.

For every denial of rights a woman faces, whether it is not being able to drive a car, go to school, have a fair share of inheritance, marry the man she loves, take part in public decision-making, or simply wear what she chooses, it is always Islam that is put as a tall wall before her. Well, he is not saying anything new here. It is the same argument EVERY Muslim has made in his/her life before (you just can’t see it now). Just like some Muslims dispute Al Shabab’s interpretation of the faith and just like Al Shabab question other Muslim’s interpretation of the religion and just like you would question me and I would quiz you, Bashir here is questioning the application of the faith when it comes to women. But (and this is where I was forced to extend him the benefit of the doubt), he does not question it and imply that his way is better (not that he suggested a way to start with), he invites the scholars to have another look at things and clarify matters for all. Is that such a bad thing?

When I first read the article, I got the man’s message but found his delivery somewhat distasteful. But when I read your reply (about him being an enemy of Islam), I saw a clear and living example of what Mr Goth is talking about.
