Man! thanks for sharing this sad, yet inspiring story with us. they should make a lot of changes.

First they should stop treating mentally ill ppl like dogs and chaining them to trees. As our religion says, a woman was put on hell fire because she chained a cat to a tree a left it to die, let alone a humanbeing.
second, the city should be prepared for emergencies like this, when catasrophes like this happen, people need to make changes and learn from their mistakes so that it doesn't happen again. they need to set -up a small fire fighter crew that will respond if fire starts in the city. because too many times, a whole Somali market will burn down to the ground, because there is no one to put down the fire, no water, no fire fighter, you should take that project if you are from that area, and train ppl how to put down fire.

The kid that saved the other kid was a hero, but one of the first things about fire safety, is to not go back to the house to get something or try to save someone, unless it's very safe.

This could be part of Somali literature.

Aga maanta sida la ii camiray :D

Ironman rumor had it that the water truck that goes around the city was stopped, from reaching there by the liyuu police (the poorely armed militia that fights onlf). They were afraid that it might of been a sabotage attack by them (onlf), also immediately when the fire started the power generator was turned off cutting off all electricity to the city. People were forced to to fight the fire with whatever water was at hand, but of course they can only do so much to a raging fire. My little cousin is a brave kid with a good heart, luckily his side of the aisle wasn't yet on fire that's the only reason why he went to save his friend.

grandpa of course he didn't but not even a bullet could pierce the lock. I think his brother was arrested for it to do jail time.

I just read it. Nice man, good to read a personal account of the realities there. aun to the insane man that died in such a horrible way. I sometimes wonder, isn't it better to shoot him instead of letting him suffer like that? Death by burning is one of the most brutal ways to go out.

Nice read wallahi and a sad reality in Ethiopia. Perfect_Order the piece is written very well, loved the detail, it was as if I was there myself witnessing the whole thing, almost ran away from my computer thinking I was too close to the fire :|
