Typical war criminals.

How are they war criminals? I mean, you have to be part of an official and recognized army that signed international laws/protocols to be a war criminal. What international laws/protocols did Al-Shabaab sign and violated in order to be war criminals?

Of course by labeling them war criminals that can legitimize their actions as lawful. Their attacks can be viewed as an act of war and what is going right now in Somalia is an armed conflict. I was just reading an article about this (Terrorism and war crimes). Would it be nice to see the ICC go after Sheikh Aweys and company for war crimes.

- Stop cutting hands of people ( somalia is a poor country, i dont see the point of cutting the hand of some miskin guy, while real thugs like warlords are running around free )

Well here is there reasoning

Prison, u gotta actually have a prison, guards, feed the inmates, so kill him, its a lot cheaper.

They don't do much prison if u notice all punishments are corporal, lashing, fines, killing, amputating

And oh yea, spying is punished by death in most war scenes

There are many hardened and serial criminals in Somalia. These criminals got multiple advance warnings of how they would be punished if caught. They include rapists who rape small girls as well as women, those who sell drugs (I'm not talking about khat) that destroy those who use it, those who have underground breweries that make alcoholic beverages, those who kidnap children and young people to harvest and export their organs, etc. There aren't many who are punished; probably several or less per month. That's far less than the victims of those criminals whose fatalities numbered in the hundreds/thousands per month. So, few hardened criminals are punished, but hundreds/thousands of potential victims are saved each month.
