TL,
If it was others, they would have been waving colorful flags unrecognized beyond the bantustans they hail from.

I still dont think Somalis learned anything from this gesture or exposure. Proud moment personally nonetheless...

Re: K'naan waving the Somali Flag
Ismahan,
Whats the lesson to be learned, my dearest cousin ?
I like our cousin K'naan but he needs to do more for his native land and assist his ancestral village instead of taking tours of other people's lands and doing benefit gigs for other disasters.
You would think he would have set up a K'naan scholarship to help out needy kids and the poor in the Land of C&C.
Real talk, he suffers from the same delusion of every famous C&C son: Somalinimo above Tolka

Re: K'naan waving the Somali Flag
You raise a fair point about doing gigs for other people other than his own and I agree with you. However, we have to realise that he is relatively a new comer to the industry and will need to put time and effort in promoting himself. I think he has done a good job so far. He needs time, to establish his image and at this point in time, that is all he is working on. He spoke several times about Somalia and his views seem as though he geniunely wishes the best for Somalia. I really doubt if he contributed politically/socially to Somali affairs,he will be one that looks for the interest of his immediate TOL. Also,You also have to give him credit that he has used his music to grapt he attention of the Somali youth and perhaps this is only a starting point for what is more to come from him.
My lesson from yesterday was simple to let go of the anger, resentment, greed that is holding us back from enjoying our beautiful country and being a nation. As he was waving that flag, I swear i was thinking to myself...That flag is lifeless, its is so beautiful and bright yet so empty!!!

Re: K'naan waving the Somali Flag
Ismahan,
Its real talk, not bad mouthing him. I believe he has a duty to help out. I have heard a disturbing story about his ancestral village and how backwards it is. All he needs to do is either make a cash contribution or do a free concert for the village (doesn't need to label it as one) and donate the proceeds to the effort.
I didn't get why he went to Hargeisa and not Galkacyo. His publicity would have helped boost Galkacyo and heck even throw a little concert for Jaberti and Hawiye kids to attend promoting peace and stability.

An attention seeking post if there ever was one.Twisted_Logic wrote:What is new? Hawiye has always been the symbol of the Somali people![]()
I wouldn't be hurling stones at others if I lived in a glass house, my friend. Hawiye were the same people who not only looted national landmarks including that of Dhagaxtuur & Xaawo Taako (both Hawiye), but fought over who should loot them.
Very symbolic, indeed.

Regardless of whatever anyone thinks of K'naan his performance was amazing. I guess that is how it would feel if Somalia was actually playing in the cup, so proud

Re: K'naan waving the Somali Flag
Seriously what is there to be proud of ? A flag is a symbol that represents a country , right ?
Look at Somalia today ... what is there to be proud of ?
Nothing ! Like I said somalians {
} are maybe some of the most shallow people on Earth .
or are you all weeping because it all reminded you of the country you all COULD HAVE HAD ? huh is that what it is ?
I am probably a hater , but that flag is a symbol of oppression and corruption as far as I am concerned , just look at the country it represents .
People generally tend to be proud of their ACHEIVEMENTS , progress , prosperity , peace , something ... not a fuckin piece of cloth representing the most FAILED state on planet Earth flown by one of theirs .
There is NOTHING behind this flag
but death , misery , forced migration , piracy , suicide bombings , warlords ....that's the truth , I am sorry .
You know what all this celebration here tells me ?
Wallahi Somalia and her citizens are still waiting for either a miracle to happen {divine intervention} or somebody to come and fix their country for them ....
wake the fuck up madafakas ! If you all loved Somalia as you profess you woulda sorted your shit out a long time ago !
