Alshabaabs power has plateaud and this attack was thier way of attractibg attention, i,e more ugandans and AU troops
and more involvement so that they could start to grow again..

An increase in AU troops, a change in the mandate and a full scale war with alshabaab is what the alshabaab have been praying for...

This means that alshabaab will increase its manpower, and its weapons (from ertirea, and captured or bought weapons from the AU troops).

and more losses for the AU troops, as well as more civilian deaths that will lead to more support and greater recruitment and funding for
alshabaab...

Thye shouldleave the alshabaab to rot in peace...

but no...

the AU and the rest of the world are idiots who will repeat the same mistakes again.....
and again.

Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing has happened..

Going on the offensive is suicidal. This is a certain defeat for AMISOM if they go to unfamiliar terrain with their heavy sluggish vehicles.

Shabab because of their discipline have been able to defeat most TFG forces but whenever they faced an equally determined opponent (ASWJ in central regions or Barre Hiiraale's personal staff) they were either defeated or it was a virtual bloodbath and needed help from other islamist groups to achieve victory.

Shabab with their 14 year old boy soldiers don't stand a chance against a professional army.

Is there a possibility even a slim one that this can be resolved peacefully? I get the feeling the majority of Somalis, especially those caught in the middle, are just ignored.

Nimaan ku furi doonin yaanu kuu rarin. I think any foreign invasion will increase the support to Al-Shabaab. At the end of the day when the dust settles and the mourning ends, Ugandans will question the involvent of their army in a country that has done no harm to them in the past. They will question the blood of their sons and daughters split at the behest of foreign government(s) and they will question the cost of being mercenaries in other people's land. I read a report which mentioned the death of Ugandans in the sands of Iraq is countless. Somehow, Uganda under Yoweri Musaveni has committed itself to the evangelical war against many Muslim societies.
