There are big discrepancies between these two versions

Al-Shabaab has zero chance in Puntland.

In places like Gedo, Shabelle, Jubbas and Bakool, Al-Shabaab was facing disjointed warlord militias with no more than 15-20 technicals to fight. Puntland has between 700 and 1000 technicals and several dozen major Ural trucks from the soviet era. They will have no problem moving hundreds of troops from one theater to another. Al-Shabaab can only send a few hundred men to any single theater, and would start in Galkacyo, it would take no more than 6 hours to move 1,000 men from the base in Garowe or Goldogob to Galkacyo.

Zero chance, this is not 1992.

The ICU and their many armed wings started causing problems in Kismayo around late 2006.

Shabab as a seperate entity tried to assasinate Col. Hiiraale many times with the most famous being the remote controlled land mine incident outside of Baardheere. Aside from AY who by virtue of his post as the President of the TFG was a high value target theres no one that Shabab have spent so much time on killing than Col. Hiiraale. Even today Doloow is the only district in southern Somalia that has continuesly remained outside of Shabab control.
