There is a huge difference between enterprising and succeeding because of competition edge (Somalis in Africa/Jews in the world) rather than a system skewered in your favor by discriminatory policy (white South Africans/Europeans in the world).

Distinction noted, but I wonder if your analysis of post-apartheid Africa still holds today. Point is, even when no discernible legal barriers remain, when the reigns of power are firmly in the hands of the ANC, blacks lag decidedly behind their white counterparts in every field of human endeavour. The Jewish diaspora's experience is instructive: Notwithstanding the rife antisemitism which prevailed in the American zeitgeist till the late '50s, alone by the sheer exertion of hard graft they rapidly ascended the social ladder and rose to academic hegemony. The same holds true for south-east Asians against which many Ivy League colleges erect quotas to ensure a diverse allocation of college places. Remove those inhibiting quotas and the ethnic make-up of our top brass universities would be disproportionately Asian and Jewish, vastly more than is already the case.

Why ? I submit that some races occupy the higher end of the bell curve, that the spread of people along the IQ continuum is uneven, that intelligence is not fairly distributed by nature. Tendentious? Sure, but nothing else to my satisfaction accounts for the yawning chasm between the racial gap in IQ. Far more interesting to speculate would be where along this cerebral continuum Somalis stand in Kenya. Might explain their go-getting spirit.
