I'm amazed by the level of ignorance by some muslims wallahi. Even the imam who was in the documentary came across completely foolish when the woman even provided medical evidence to prove this.


Nobody is saying marrying your cousin will result in Handicapped children, they're saying blood related individuals take a much GREATER risk by producing kids with diseases as recessive genes are more likely to be expressed.



As soon as a non-muslim person provides medical argument with proven facts, Muslims throw up their defences and take no heed whatsoever. Technically you could walk into a highway and say if you survive waa qadar. You have to study for an exam, you have to make sure the food you eat is clean, you have to make sure the person you marry is compatible with you to the best of your knowledge...you have to take responsibility for your life and not blame God or qadr when things blow up.

Time and time again we see Imams and those in position of leadership coming across as foolish on TV. He was aware of the subject of the interview, a simple search would have taught him that there is a health problem affecting his community disproportionately. Instead he came across as reluctant, uncaring and doubful. A simple statement to say that the mosque are concerned about it and they will inform and raise awareness would have sufficed. Why did he agree to go on TV if his answers consisted of "i dont know".

there some madabs that forbid first cousin marriages and some within the madabs that do where scholars disagree, I wouldn't marry cousin

Marrying cousins is not good for the simple reason it reduces genetic diversity in offspring. This effects our evolution.
