It's not entirely dying, I have seen it done in wedding videos of my family back home

I only see it at shash saars. Not the acual wedding night.

Yeah qoraxeey that's it, the thing is it's suppose to be brutally painful for the somali girls cuz of guudnimo, and this is suppose to motivate the couple to persevere, poor girls. That's also why the womenfolk hit the men with sticks when they are trying to open the xeer so they know that they know just a little bit of the pain they are going to cause.
