In 1954 when the British handed over the Ogadeen to Ethiopia's Halie Salasa and somalis attempted to negotiate for the return of the land the then Vice Minister of Interior Affairs of Ethiopia Abdurrahman Mohamed Sayed Abdullah Hassan[Son of Mad Mullah] rejected the somalis proposal even though Haile Salasa was open to the idea of negotiating with the somalis.

The main reason being the delegation negotiating for the somali soil were predominantly from the somaliland region. Vice minster saw them as lackeys of the British and the same people that helped the defeat of his father and this is the main reason why Somali soils are divided today.
