It is a fact that the wahabis think that acknoeldging historic sites is tantamount to idol worship. They have destroyed many old buildings. If the Kaba were not specifically mentioned by the Prophet, it would be long gone.

don't jump to your guns prematurely for it is unclear the real culprits. Are they really arabs? Or slimy jew jins disguised as suadi arabs? Or the media? There are so many possibilities that even the most logical is one least likely. And the least likely culprit is the most likely one.
