whatever my great grandmothers from dad side were xawaadles and from my mums side well they were northerns isaaqs and even ogadeen are in there.

According to the xawaadle elders xawaadle isnt haweya in fact were are related to daroods. That means somewhere down the line I am koombo kablalah.

Yeah right! DD your knowledge in qabils ****![/quote]
qabiils are superficial. every somali can have hawiye, darood, isaaq, dir and all the other clans in him/her. there is no way to know for certain, so you can't be certain at all. somalis will deny this but that is from ignorance and prejudice. it doesn't matter who your ancestors were, the ancestors of your ancestors descended from original somalis. if somali qabiils were meaningfull racial classification of somali ppl, then you should see physical and cultural differences. i mean significant cultural and physical differences. can you tell apart a hawiye from isaaq or darood or dir? i can't.
clanism is not unique to somalis, its common among all nomads. it is social institute originally designed to perform duties of governments/kingdoms since somalis didn't have as they moved around often. ever since its introduction, it had evolved as social identity and representation structure. you differentiate one somali from another based on their qabiils. that had its uses when it was first introduced.
but don't mistake that to mean there is any significance from which clan a somali belongs to. there is no way for you tell by looks alone or language (other than dialect) which clan a somali belongs. so what is use for clans, especially the age of modern nations which provide everything from health, security, education, cultural identity...?
ppl who cling to this ridiculous and obsolete social structure are driven by ignorance, prujudice and lack of vision. they simply can not see beyond this dysfuntional and failed social structure. how can you look at your fellow countrymen, who shares same language, culture, heritage, tradition, and religion and consider him to be different from you -- to the point you are willing to kill him or hate him. you are different becuz you are descended from hypothetically different long dead somali man, one that you don't share with him.
it is always amazing to see how far some will go in the name of their clan. some will commit unspeakable crimes in the name of their clan, protect murderers in the name of their clan, kill children in the name of their clan...outrage after outrage, 15 years of civil war and choas and clanism is still alive and kicking. even among the educated somalis -- maybe not educated enough!
i say fuk all clans, even my own.
