Oh I am not sure about the origin of the "Somali" name but it goes back at least a thousand years as some historical text mention it.

I got a book about this a while ago and I was told it was a 'Hawiye' book because it said we came froma guy called Samaale. At the end of the day Masaais believe they came from the sky, Kikuyus have their own special adam and eve and some Somalis believe they came from a tree, they're all mythical stories. A bunch of people ended up on the same spot of land and decided to create a fancy story that gave their lives more meaning. That's all it comes down to.

I don't know what it means to be Dir. However I know that we all have our ab tiris, you can count back for so long until the names and characters start to get fictious so yes we are all mixed, all the people that we share DNA with are people we have at one time or another lived amongst until we migrated. Thats how every country has been populated, there is no one man team that we all came from...unless of course you are going back to the original creation story.

This Myth of somalis originating in arabia will one day be busted... The reality will be that many arabs have somali ancestory.

We are Somali ethnic group and fellow Muslims and in my view that is what matters. All of other claims are bogus and no historical facts proving them. We should accept we are one ethnic group who have always lived in the Horn of Africa.
