A classmate of mine went to study Arabic with the 'Critical Languages Program' in Summer of 2009. He is in Egypt now for a whole year.waryaa wrote:two things:
1- Yemen is one of the cheapest places to learn Arabic. A lot of WHITE Americans go to this country for Arabic language. I don't recall the name but there was a TV program about it (maybe 60 mins or frontline, etc).
2- Yemen may be a hotspot for alqaeda but hundreds of somali kids go there for education. It has the largest Ahlusuna Wajamaca friendly university in the middle east, which gives out free scholarships for both religion and other studies. Many Ahlusuna young adults from south and central Somalia go through Bosaso to and from Yemen. I think the ferry costs about $25 each way. (not those beat up and overcrowded boats for hopeful future refugees). I know a well known ahlusuna spokesman who is now in Yemen.
I am sure American gov. knows about this and much more.

Fah, if the following is true, the kid was like 8-9 yrs old in 2001/02! Somalis must be very careful when traveling. I have seen/heard so many horror stories. khatar cadeem.FAH1223 wrote:Poor kid is from Virginia so he 'MUST' know Anwar Al-Awlaki according to them Kuwaitis.
The other guy from Virginia was imprisoned in Cairo this past summer for 2 months when he was stopped at Cairo airport for his connecting flight back to DC.
You are from Virginia, you have to know him,” they responded, according to Mr. Mohamed. From 2001 to 2002, Mr. Awlaki was the imam of a prominent mosque in northern Virginia.
