Re: United Kingdom asks Siilanyo, why not remain with Somali
People get your priorities straight. Make peace in Somalia first then we'll discuss why Somaliland is independent. And Puntlanders that I see commenting; stop being hypocritical:
It is also deceptive that Puntland under the guise of being pro Somalia, presents Somaliland as against Somalia and tries to benefit from that situation.
Puntland = Pan-Daarodism with Majeerteen as leadership and under the guise of Somali nationalism'; with the 'Puntland' back-up plan of independence.
Evertime I see Puntlander making a pass as being against Somaliland because they are pro-Somalia, as if they are mutually exclusive, and then present Puntland as being pro Somalia, as if, in contrast, Puntland existance and Somalia are not mutually exclusive, it makes me laugh. What a deception. What a bullshit.
You can argue against Somaliland's (total) independence, but you can't argue against it's existance or its autonomy, that is without equally doing so for Puntland. The irony.
And now since the Puntland government has rejected the Transitional Federal Government of SOMALIA , your ability to even this has been marginalised. It seems like they want to dictate to the TFG and when they didn't get their way they took the highway (My way or the highway!). So Puntland and Puntlanders are disengenious about their intentions and identity and they only back Somalia HALFHEARTEDLY to make use of the aid and international assistance made avaliable to 'Somalia'. More oppertunistic than sincere and Faroole also uses Puntland relative stability as a weapon; what did he do when the last prime minister whom they supported, was sacked and replaced with Farmaajo: he threatended to pull out puntland's symbolic spport for the TFG, and i must emphisise SYMBOLIC.
Somaliland's existence and independence, whether recognised or not, serves to protect the peace, lives and futures of its people. And there is such a thing as de-facto independence (in-fact/in reality) and de-jure independence (legal).Somaliland is independent whether recognised or, De-Facto; Somalia doesn't exist, De-Facto.
To question the ability of Somaliland to achieve independence is one thing, to question the merits or demerits of Somliland is also one thing; but to question the existance of Somaliland when it have proven that it is viable and progressing over the last 20 years (with more to come inshallah) is wrong; especially when there is no alternative. Once there is an alternative it would be possible to debate SOmaliland's independence (not that you'd win that debate either) but untill then it just doesn't make sense to verbally attack Somaliland for no good reason.

The only thing the African Union will respect is out right Terror, another war to draw attention to the god forsaken african continent. AU is happy to leave the situation as it is because there is little treat that comes from Sland. Pland would have a greater case if they wanted to bargain for independence simply based on the multi-billion dollar trade route that is hostage to pirates.
What can Sland treaten the region with, they are peacefull and complying with the wishes of the international community. They have self-pacified. The ones being held hostage are the civilians in both Sland and Pland due to the chaos in koonfur. The politicians of both landers make more money then an average politician in the WEST hence they are not bothered.
International community granting independence to both Sland and Pland would be fair to their respective populations. It is not if the land is going to be spilt and moved to china or the moon. The consideration should alwasy bee given to the needs of the populations in question regardless of the political affilication of their respective leaders.
Millions suffering and unable to make to make ends meet. Recognition or some sort of development that builds on the dual track aproach is well over due to uplift the condition of the civilians. The next step from the dual track aproach should focus on job creation for the masses the population don't really care for more then that.
Stop holding the populations hostage to Ego.

Re: United Kingdom asks Siilanyo, why not remain with Somali
scarlet Somaliland was a seperate nation From Somalia in 1960 we do not share the same history values customs tradition with the koonfurians. we never voted for the 1961 unity referendum. our people were never citizens of a Somali republic. Eritreans and Ethiopian highlanders are basically the same people they speak the same old tigrinya share the same history ethnicity But Late Emperor haile sellesie abolished their parliament in asmara in the 60s and they wanted to seperate eversince . Somalilanders fought since the day one in 1961 the failed Coupe For Mujaheed xassan kayd to make Somaliland independence. our people were driven by a dream in the early 60s a dream called greater Somalia that eventually destroyed our homes that so called dream was caused by the colonialist when they handed our land over to the Ethiopians in 1954 the hawd and reserve area , if that did not happen i believed.the missary the destruction of our country would've never occurred.

Lack of peace in somalia has an impact on them too, would you not want them to have the same chance at independence to take their chances?
What ever you can get out of independence Pland would also likely get out of such an endeavour.

the seperation has been done, people need tot deal with it.
A somalia that fices them selves now, will not be in the same level of political and institutional development as somaliland, they are not compatible.
maybe after 15 -20 years of peace and political development, as in working institutions, democratic governance, non-clan political parties, yes.
