If that happens, then somaliland should be happy with a tiny country. There are more smaller countries on this planet.

Simple, there was a rebel group who was backed by Somalia's arch enemy and whose platform was the break-up of the country. President MSB had no choice but to act decisively against the traitor SNM (Soomaalida Midnimada Neceb).

No problem with fighting against SNM but shell civilian populated areas and use warplanes to destroy it he knew he would not hit only SNM but 90% of the people of hargeysa what about the jazeera killings n 1989 were they part of SNM to every one knew Siyad bare was fighting a Somali qabil he wanted to attack them wether it was in xammar between the border of somaliland and Ethiopia the airplanes went as far as beyond the border of Ethiopia to attack isaaq refugees, he was not fighting SNM but the people of Somaliland.

What about the killing of other non-Isaaq innocent victims in Somalia committed by the SNM? The killing went both ways; however, others are not running away from their country!

SNM was defending its land from aggressors those they fought were armed to , there is a difference between killings commited by a rebel group. then a government who claimed to protect its citizens. as for Somalia i never believed Somalia was ever my country we were never citizens of Something called Somalia. so i dont know what i am running away from.

Seemeyer.
Let me educate you the British colonial in the north Somalia did not Controlled Kilil 5, they only controlled Small portion Called Hawd and reserve area that is adjacent to Somaliland that reached around Wardheer, but the British did not controlled Godey, fiiq, IImeey, Khalaafe, Shilaabo, Hargeele, Liibaan, etc.
This is how it happened after the creation of United Nations, one of its main Chapter was to end all Colonial territories that were responsible Second World War. The Somali people were asked since they were divided Britain and Italy which colonial to choose next ten years of trusteeship government in order to reach full independence, Somalis knew Italians were weaker and already lost world war two, and defeatable if things get tougher later on so they chose Italy over Britain, this infuriated the British and as a back lash they transferred Hawd and reserve area which was part of the British Somaliland to Ethiopian King of Haile Selasse in the treaty of Anglo Ethiopian in 1954.
My point is if one is claiming to set their borders were the British had their borders may as well claim all of it including Hawd and reserve area which is today part of Kilil 5, that was in past part of British Somaliland. I am not talking about the greater zone 5, I am only talking about the portion that the British gave 1954 to Haile Salasse.

The british are evil sons of bitches and have caused problems all over the world but in somalias case they were the good guys.
When the british defeated the Italians and took over Italian somaliland and british somaliland and Ethiopia in 1941, the somali people from all the clans were squarely on the british side.
The british were comfortable becuase they knew that all the somalis prefered them to the Italians and they ruled with a very light hand.
Ernest bevin the foriegn minister in 1948 proposed that all the somali territories should be united from, the NFD tot he Ogaden and both somalilands to form a single trusteeship under british control for 10 to 20 years so that the british could prepare them for independance.
The Italians which were rehabilitated and were a new democracy were pretty tight with the US and the Soviets.
Both the Soviets and the US strongly objected to the plan, the Ethiopians also leaned heavily on the americans and the british were forced to quit.
Before the british quit they tried to sway the super powers by letting the SYL and politicians from the north send a joint delegation to the UN to present their case, micheal mariano amongst others demanded that all the somali territories should be under british trusteeship until independance..
The super powers along with Italy and Ethiopia won the day and they were ignored.
It was then decided by the UN to give the trusteeship to both the british and the Italians for exactly 10 years starting from 1950, with Independance gaurenteed in 1960.
The british were forced to give the Ogaden back to the Ethiopians and after more pressure from the US which was Ethiopias big brother back in the day, to give the haud and reserve territories.
When the people in somaliland protested the british government then tried to change their mind and offered Haille sellasie a corridor to zeylac and a port in zeylac along with a battleship and a destroyer in exchange for the haud and reserve territories.
Haille sellasie refused..
