I dont' want to speak for him, because one I'm not his spokesman, and two I don't want to claim something wrong on behalf of him. My advice is this, 1, he is more qualified to speak about Islam than all of us combined, 2, just because you don't agree with doesn't mean much, he is just making an opinion based on his knowledge and understanding of Islamic shariah, it's implementations, and the condition people are in here. Respect the scholar doesn't mean you have to agree with every point. It's just good adab.

Fair point I guess. But money will be spent taking care of the amputee by the society, as there aren't many jobs that can be done with one hand. But from the shariah I've seen implemented throughout the world, it's usually teenagers having their limbs cut off over trivial offenses like stealing a cellphone and such, I don't think that can ever be justified.

There are rules and regulations to be followed when carrying out the sharia, its not just going around cutting off hands. they must be witness, a sharia judge, a trail and he must fit the right type of stealing.
I don't think their hand will be chopped if they do a delibrate robbery. there is a difference between stealing quietly behind someone's back or ordering them to hand over the money by force.
Look at Americans jails, its over crowded with millions and millions of murders and theives, and the government is going bankcrupt by trying to provide for their meals and health care. states can't pay for all these police operations and high tech crime investigation spent on these crimminals instead of spending it on decent poor people that need food, shelter and education.
and these stealing isn't about being poor, there are a lot of decent poor people that die out of hunger, and would not even steal a candy, and there are rich people like ActoressLinsy Lohan and Winona Ryder, stealing jewelery and clothes from stores. why do they do this, they have the money?
