Even though your population figures were way off (so ridiculous that I deleted them from this quote), there's no doubt that Hargeisa is a lot larger than Bosaso, it was a qaldaan who started the topic, not a Puntlander.

Secondly, Your statement is the other way around. Siad Barre and previous governments built Hargeisa, locals built Bosaso. Siad Barre only built the roads of Bosaso and gave it a small semi-professional port. He did nothing for the city itself, as evidenced by the fact that it was quiet even in 1990. Bender Qassim Int'l Airport is the only airport terminal built in post-war Somalia while everything Hargeisa has was started by previous regimes.

Just compare the chaotic city layout of Bosaso to the controlled central urban planning of Hargeisa, Berbera, and Burco, we can see which cities were built primarily by previous regimes.

The bare government built hargisea? really? what was there a few buildings and homes that were later bombed. Somalilanders built there city from the bottom up dont give credit to the corrupt so called kacaan government. Hargisea airport survived only because it was where the city was being bombed from. The airport then was a strip and a shack.

You act like Siad Barre bombed the whole city. You are turning a few loose mortars into a holocaust.

This is Hargeisa in the 1980s, it looks like a big city to me. So what changed?

This is Hargeisa in 1968 and it looks better than the shit you "built" today.

Folks alot has changed in Hargeysa in the last 8-9 years let alone 30 years ago.

Notice the big gap of difference. Alot of new neighbourhoods were started from scratch.

This was Hargeysa in 2002.

And Hargeysa in 2009.

Indhaha ha iska tirin ayada oo aan lagaa tirin sxb  That is a picture of the city prior to the full-scale war and bombing. What has changed is that Hargeisa was destroyed and completely rebuilt and today is many, many times bigger than before.

That has also been revamped, extended and rebuilt. Bear in mind the demage it sustained in the war as well as the recent (heavy) damage the building sustained during the Hargeisa suicide bombings.

That is because it is Puntland's largest (commercial, port, capital?) city. It also goes to show that even though those debates take place, Boosaaso is no-where near in size to how big Hargeisa is today.
abdalla11 wrote:so we know which city made huge progress
Manshallah, both cities have made huge progress, but Hargeisa is much, much, larger. If you think Boosaaso made phenomenal growth, Hargeisa today is 7/8x the size of Boosaaso. Hargeisa today is much larger than Boosaaso, Beledweyne, Galkacayo, Kismaayo + others combined :|
Like others pointed out, Bosaso can´t get any bigger due to her location and the mountains surrounding her. Which means she´s at her maximum, so we exploited her fully, that can´t be said about Hargeisa.

The Bosaso satellite image is almost 10 years old, the Hargeisa satellite image is only 1 or 2 years old.

I can’t find my relatives house in Bosaso on Google Maps, while it was build a few years ago.

For the developed countries it is very up to date, but for many parts of Africa some satellite images can be very old.

Much of South Somalia & Puntland was uploaded very early on, but Somaliland, especially Hargeisa was only recently included with newer images.

I still don't see why Google would update Hergeisa or Somaliland but not Boosaaso :? But how do you know when it was updated ?

P.S: what year did relative build their house.
