About Somali Bantu. We have two domestic workers @ home. They are married to the same guy. There's also a third wife who works as a babysitter for the two. This dude has two wives working for him and another one taking care of the whole family. They work as a miniature corporation

When I said Humanitarian situation I basically lumped law and order with that as well. Somalia the law and order broke and when that happens Women are the most vulnerable. What I meant though is Somalia as a society is not inherently that abusive towards Women. Before the civil War, I don't think Women were treated that bad.

I want to start a relief agency whose sole job is to help the destitute and the suffering in Somalia. The IDPs (internally displaced people) in Somalia face the worst treatment than the rest of the population wherever they are. We may need to focus how to help our fellow countrymen and fellow Muslims in Somalia!

You want to know how Somalia wronged its women? Look no further than illiteracy rate for our women, in the higher doube digits by all accounts. One of the highest in the world, Eritrea, Kenya and Djibouti have better figures. How can any society claim to not mistreat its women when they are denied the basics? The problem is that we are so good at the art of deception, we think if we hide it, then deny it, it somehow no longer exists. The ills against women are too many for me to even name in this thread, but I will give you illiteracy and sexual violence as two. Coming back to my other example, sexual violence against women happens all too often, Somali men are no different than everyone else, both anatomically and psychologically, are we? We are prone to rape and maim like all else. There's really nothing left that we can say we are above it anymore, its all been done.

There was a time when women had honor & people respected the customs more so than in many parts of the world, but the civil war put an end to that.

Have you ever been to Somalia horta? The Short time I was in Somalia in 2009 working in Galkacyo hospital, I must have seen nearly 30 women who were brought in from all over central Somalia because they were raped in the IDP camps. These women are the ones that are fleeing form the civil unrest of the south and they are raped, tortured and humiliated.


On one occasion, a 14 years old girl was brought to the hospital because she sustain life threatening injuries becuase the rapist could have sex with her so he ripped her up with a razor blade.If that happens in one of the most peaceful regions in Somalia why not the hell hole Mogadishu?

Also, GEMINI posted a documentary film a while back, where this men in Buulo Xaawo were claiming that they set up check point, robbing people and forcefully rap women . May be you ought to watch that documentary because you seem to be clueless about the atrocities that are comitted by Somali men to defenseless women.

I agree with everything You are saying. All I'm saying is that maamul la'aan iyo kala danbayn la'aan brings about all sorts of dibaato. This is why When the Prophet SAW died, the Ansaar and Muhaajiruun started debating who would rule before the best creation of the entire Universe was even buried. One of the Saxaaba who was very Prominent RA was asked about this and He said that the Sahaaba hated not being part of a jamaaca for even a PART of a day and they had to resolve that asap. For us Somaalida We didn't have a maamul for 21 years! Maamul la'aan opens up a floodgate of problems, and the abusing of Women is one of MANY. Peoples properties get looted, people are killed for no reason, women get raped, the weak vulnerable clans get devoured, and all sorts of dulmi iyo xad gudub. I just notice How much Soomalida downplay Statelessness. These are all symptoms, of one ill.

I wouldn't say somalia is the worst place for women, believe me there are far more gruesome places such as south-east asia or southern asia or even central and southern africa. However, rape and sexual assault is common in somalia and has been occuring for a long time in our history i.e. women being raped in IDP camps.
I think literacy is the least of those women's problems such as hunger, displacement, shelter etc.

Somali women are one of the most powerful women in the world. At least more powerful than white women.

sis obviously there is rape in somalia...rape is everywhere men are, even in men only environments such as prisons...i am not denying it.however rape in somalia is not that critical to put somalia in the top 5 countries globally...we are not even top 5 in east africa... maybe you need to do a research on rape in south africa mexico japan france, black africa in general....and yes i have heard of the rapings taking place in IDP's ....but that doesnt mean its present in every street corner in somalia...
