I read the manga which comes out weekly, the anime is just seeing the literature and pictures come to life.
naruto shippuden has curse words like fuck, so it's not for kids.
neither is death note; most animes/manga have an adult fan base, children wouldn't be able to understand many of the plots of mangas/animes, were not talking about pokemon here, it's a bit more complicated than catching 150 creatures.

there's a difference between anime and cartoons, cartoons lack plot and less time is put in creating cartoons.
also anime is made in japan, not some tom and jerry BS;it's not as simple as the cat and mouse plot your reducing it to.
