In a full district mode, Calanleey was always the biggest and the most developed district in Kismaayo. It is synonymous with the Hartis pride and prestige in Kismaayo as they have always dominated Calenleey. It is also true Calanleey was always more populous than other Kismaayo districts in one-to-one comparison.

Sheekh Calenleey was a well-known Ogaden/Reer Cabdule/Reer Warfaa xeroow and was the very first person to settle Calanleey. The name Calenleey is in reference to the Xerta Calankeeda. The Hartis loved him so much as he always protected them from the wild and marauding OGs warriors so he let them settle around his xer camp. This was around 130 years ago.
