I know we talk alot of shit sometimes but at the end of the day, my general exprience in America was positive. its at least a place where you can walk down the street peacefully, own a business, get education etc. literally if you work hard you could achieve anything you want. where else do you get that? not in any African country (somalis are being killed and abused daily in south africa, ethiopia/kenya), not in a Muslim country (somalis are mistreated and deported from Saudi arabia), not even in my own country (where people are killed and robbed daily).
so what benefits this country benefits us, and what harms this country harms us.
I don't really parttake in attending anywhere on 4th. As for the fireworks, its not like I got a choice, I'll hear 'em whether I like it or not. Sometimes you can even hear gunshots going off!!
I think she wants to see us respond, "yeah the whole family goes to the park and barbeque's with small american flags everywhere, as soon as it gets dark the kids light up the little sparklers, and we all sit down to watch the show with hot dogs and hamburgers."
On July 5, 1852, Frederick Douglass made this speech
What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer; a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sound of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciation of tyrants brass fronted impudence; your shout of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanks-givings, with all your religious parade and solemnity, are to him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy -- a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of the United States, at this very hour.

Why do I need to go back? I didnt have a choice in coming here and unfortunately all I know is here and nowhere else but that doesnt mean I have to celebrate.
Well U sure do now, LEAVE ! Go the hell home....pracice your Sharia law there

Why would I do that when my intention is to bring Sharia law and Islam to America. I think I was brought here for a purpose and insha'allah my dream is to see a mosque and madrassa in every corner of this country.

are you TRYING to IRRITATE me?!!?
abayoo there is nothing un american what he said, actually quite the opposite. Bringing ones heritage is fundamentally what America is all about, and propagating ones beliefs within the confines of the constitution is absolutely american. There are churches and sunday schools everywhere, if he desires to see Mosques and madarasa's everywhere that is not illegal, and if that happens it's because the people have accepted it and supported it.
Gee, I don't have to ponder long ! I am thankful to live in the United States of America - land of the free, even though many have no idea what that truly means
