Knight, Umar {RA} didn't pray inside that church because he didn't want later generations of Muslims to lay claim to that land. He did it out of respect for Christianity.

It's not like he was averse to the idea as you're making it seem. I've noticed waad isku qasqasdaa stuff, please stop. Research it and gain knowledge that way.

Also it is interesting to note the Prophet {p.b.u.h} had a delegation of Christians pray in his Mosque.Yep they were praying according to their Byzantine trinitarian traditions inside the Prophet's Masjid.

I've never understood the trend of letting other religions use your religious structure for worship. I know many Muslims use synagogues and churches to conduct regular prayer. I think its the extreme liberalization that these religions have gone through that has allowed this to happen. Perhaps one day other religions will use the Mosque to conduct their religious rites. :|

Taloalleudaa,
In the year 10 A.H. (631 CE), Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) received a delegation of sixty Christians from Najran in Medinah. The territory of Najran was located south of Bani Khath’am near Yemen, about 450 miles south of Medinah. They were received in the Prophet’s mosque, and the Prophet allowed them to pray in the mosque, which they did facing East. This group of Christians followed Byzantine rite.

They discussed with the Prophet the points of doctrine including the nature of God, and he replied them by reciting Surah Ikhlas (112) of the Qur’an. It begins with the word ‘Qul’ meaning ‘Say’. The translation of the meaning of the Surah is: 'Say: He is Allah, the One! Allah, the eternally Besought of all! He begetteth not nor was begotten. And there is none comparable unto Him'. Further discussion on the nature of Prophet Jesus (pbuh) led to some disagreements, on which he recited them the three Ayats of the Qur’an from Surah Ale-‘Imran (3:59-61). After three days, the Christian delegation decided to conclude its mission.

In spite of doctrinal disagreements, the Prophet concluded a treaty with the people of Najran. The Prophet dictated the terms of the treaty to Abdullah b. Abu Bakr, who served as one of his scribes, and it was witnessed by five companions whose names are: Abu Sufyan b. Harb, Ghilan b. Amr, Malik b. Auf, Aqra' b. Habis, and Mughira b. Shu'ba. The treaty provided religious and administrative autonomy for non-Muslim citizens of the Islamic State. All sincere Muslim rulers have adhered to the founding principles of this treaty in managing the affairs of non-Muslim subjects throughout the centuries.

I first heard this from one of Ahmed Deedat's lectures, not only did they pray in the Mosque, they were staying there for 3 days and 3 nights. It was during their stay Surah Al-Ikhlaas revealed.

ES
Is ibn Ishaq's seerah and what you posted exactly the same?, from what I recall it didn't say that the prophet gave them permission but when they started to pray and he told the asxaba to leave them alone.

just to clear the Omar ra's action: فقد ذكرت كتب التاريخ أن عمر رضي الله عنه امتنع عن الصلاة في الكنيسة حتى لا يسلبها المسلمون من الرهبان بحجة صلاة عمر فيها

it was mentioned the islamic history books that Omar refused to pray in the church cause he afraid muslim after him will take it from them cause umar did it.

اختلف أهل العلم في حكم الصلاة في الكنيسة على أقوال:

the scholars disagreed on the issue praying in the churches:

it's known in mathbab alhanabila you can pray in the church and places kufar pray.

and abbas said is makrook to pray it cause of the pictures/asnaam in the churches.
