I was in Damascus last year and met Arabs of all sorts. Am not ignorant of the fact that there are non muslim Arabs. what caused me embarassment is, the guy looked more afghani than Arabos to me and i automatically assumed he was a muslim. Also when he asked if i was a cristain, my reply, "Are you crazy brother? why do you call me that?" unwittingly insulting his faith.

These were Yemeni jews who lived in Somalia for hundreds of years and some interbreed with the Somalis. I met one once when I was traveling in Tel Aviv in the 90s.
