SNM came into North Somalia in 1988, that's why the govt used airforce before they deployed the troops. They then got pushed then SNA troops put mines in border of north somalia and ethiopia to prevent to come in again, for 3 years SNA controlled North Somalia until the war started in Mogadisho. Yes, Siyad Barre failed to destroy SNM in 1990, that's because the SNA army in North Somalia retreated, where different soldiers were going to defend their own deegan. Nobody cared about North Somalia when the war erupted in Mogadisho, SNA simply left and went to take part in the fight in South Somalia to defend their own clans. Therefore SNM captured the 3 villages because of the power vacuum.
