Monk most of the Somalilanders are pastrolists followed by farmers then fishers. That could explain why they don't settle in the coasts much. As for Maydh in 2004 Google Earth satellite it had atleast 30 houses some old and some new.

Maydh - 2004.

You're right, Maydh is a bit bigger than what I saw - google maps pointed to the wrong place, a few kilometers west of Maydh, some tiny outpost it showed. Still, with that huge coast, people should diversify into fishing - even reer Mudug who are the top livestock people in Somalia are becoming fishermen. Bari has the same number of livestock as Togdheer but also has a large coastal population while almost zero reer Togdheer live on the coast.

Its amazing, between Maydh and Las Qoray there are zero coastal settlements.

.

The small settlement you have actually seen west of Maydh is Xiis, Maydh is bigger than that. I agree people should diversify more into fishing, although at the moment pastoralism is also important to Somaliland because we export large amounts of livestock to other countries and its one of our main income. What should be encouraged is a balanced way of pastoralism, farming, fishing within the population.

Not sure about the exact temperature in those seasons however it has similar weather as Las Qoray. During february i once checked the weather forecast for those two places and they were 26°C , Scattered Clouds.

I think our clan have some sort of phobia fo coastlines because wew have 4 beautiful locations Maydh, Berbera, Karin and Xiis and they are the least populated. Maybe it's due to the heat? :?

Maydh is like holy city to the durriyah, so I don't see that becoming tourist centre in the future.
