They aren't a threat because they had this thing called a reformation (after some 1,400 years of religious violence). Then they adopted a live and let live attitude and slowly recognized that religion belongs in the domain of the private, not the public. Muslims haven't figured this out. So they kill each other and everyone around them with careless abandon.
Make no mistake, Muslims aren't considered a threat to actually accomplish their objectives. They are considered a threat to peace and stability in the world. That is why they are increasingly looked upon with suspicion. The funny thing is, you can't govern yourselves (which you freely admit) but you want to dominate those around you. It's as if Muslims collectively are saying "yeah, we focked up our societies, and damn if we aren't going to try and fock up yours too."
But people like me don't fear Muslims. Hell, you gave me years of quality employment. Gracias.

I think another factor is extreme mistrust of the jews, much of this is waranted, as they have been very efficient in dragging thier feet on major agreements.
Palestinian do not expcet the isrealis to do what they say,and more repression leads to extremism.
The palestinians precieve themselves to be in a hopeless situation,
where isreal holds all the cards.
Any meaningfull PEACE treaty can only be acomplished by the full surrender of the palestinans to the isrealis.
This is the reality today.
This is also why they go to tthe other extreme, when faced with this choice.
Bow down to isreal, and be happy with whatever crumbs are thrown to you, or embrace what they see as jihad, another dead end.

Well, right now we're only talking the Palestinian side of the problem. There is an Israeli side. Treachery and religious banality have played a part on their side as well. BUT, and this is a big but, the MAJORITY of Israelis, in poll after poll, have stated they would be willing to see a return to something like the 67 boundaries in return for peace. The MAJORITY of the Palestinians, in poll after poll, have stated that they would not. The majority of the Palistinians want to see Israel destroyed as a political entity and are willing to go on suffering to accomplish that goal - however unrealistic. And they are cheered on to this ends from Muslims on the side lines. Most Palestinians are willing to compromise their childrens future in order to continue the campaign against Israel. Do you disagree with this premise? Your thoughts?

I disagree Palestinians infact arabs today are refering to Isreal as Isreal.
It was Taboo to even say the word. It was the equivalent of swearing.
While growing up i remember isreal bieng scribled out of maps and books.
Today most people ahve accepted the existance of isreal,no doubt grudgingly but still acceptance.
Most liberal secualr jews have alos accepted the existance of the palestinains and the need for the 67 borders, but what about the large and growing popualtion of religous extremist jews who still belive the rightfull borders of Isreal should be the Nile and the euphrates.

So what exactly is your point ? Political infighting does exist within the Palestinian camp and recent developments are certainly not surprising.
""It's as if Muslims collectively are saying "yeah, we focked up our societies, and damn if we aren't going to try and fock up yours too." ""
And you've come to this conclusion because....

Gadfly
I come to that conclusion because of several factors:
a. Muslims are disgusted with their own leadership.
b. Muslims are asking themselves how their own societies have become so noncompetetive.
c. Conservative Muslims make the argument that the reason the "Ummah" is in so much trouble is because they are no "Islamic enough."
d. The West in general, and the US in particular, is blamed for every corrupt regime in the Islamic world. Since internal critic at the core of their socio-economic systems (based around Islam) is not permissable or even comprehensible, external scapegoats are required and sought. The CIA because the invisible hand behind all troubles.
Muslims have developed a deep suspicion and even hatred for the west. It's looked upon as an irreconcilable enemy. Hence many Muslims either passively or actively look for ways to discredit it or attack it.
