lol@awahab - no he clearly said made the announcement of the new military coup. Not necessarily pro coup but doing his job. Yes, he talked about how he and a/yusuf saw it.

Voltage,

What civil unrest after the assassination ? The 1969 coup was a major setback for Somalia. The corrupt civilian government was able to defuse out right civil war by allowing clans to exercise their intentions through real politick in parliament. The 1969 coup squashed that opportunity and the game got played using guns and rebel movements because the opportunities for change through the ballot box got squashed.

Waryaa,

Aidid did no such thing. He got locked up and did his time for not being procoup. I only regret PM Cigaal decided to dilly dally as he looked for another MJ to replace Abdirashid.

waa u firsaday, somalis treat what their parents or tribesmen tell them as divine truth. We don't have the capability to go against tolka when it comes to reasoning.

awhab, did you read the book he co-wrote with that Indian professor?

Waryaa,

I received two copies from the man himself. He was a very pleasant, soft spoken man. I would say that he and MSB were a cut above the next generation of unprincipled vagabonds who claim to be politicians.

This guy had dialogue with the elders, this is the discovery that I find most amusing. He talked they listened, they talked, he listened...Somehow I always thought he was a one man show who didn't give a damn what anyone else said.

Hyper it is true everyone is told a different story.

From the video I watched that someone posted, it did seem like there was a plan, he had a plan but those he made plans with turned against him and when they did he decided to fight back instead of walking away or engaging in a dialogue. About him speaking to the elders that is something he is known to have done case in point, the video. Like AW mentioned before, it was also the reason he came back to defend Mogadishu, the elders asked him to. So that part if fact. There were also meetings he attended with people in the community where they were trying to find ways to move forward but it was sabotaged and a lot of people got killed. Since a qaraabo of mine got killed in one such meeting, that is also fact.

I too grew up hearing stuff about Ceydiid so I always thought of him as a scary ring leader type of character but growing up you realise there was a lot more to the man.

BV

The "elders" and "community" you speak of, are his clan elders and his tribe, they were engaged in the tribal war too.
