You're not serious, are you?
Imagine letting Hitler or Pol Pot decide what's preserved for posterity.

Yep, serious as a heart attack! First, the point that you mention Hitler and Pol Pot in this post clearly indicates your bias and where you stand. Second, unless you were living under a rock for the past 20 yrs (you do get a pass if you are under-age) you know that there are dueling narratives out there about Somalia's recent history, where spin and propaganda rather than facts are fed to the masses. Furthermore, there is rampant historical revisionism going on compounded by the fact that so called 'Somali Intellectuals" have resorted to 'borrowing' other people's historical narratives and apply it to the Somali situation to create 'new and improved' history where the whole point is to revise history that existed before. So, my point is, let us hear and preserve what prominent Somali figures have to say. I have no problem with others writing their version of how events have unfolded and what took place in Somalia, but that should not negate documenting a different perspective for comparative purposes. I want to see shades of grey, and unless convinced by facts - the unadulterated kind, I refuse to believe that world is black and white.
Niya, eagerly awaiting for adeer Abdullahi XaafidulLaahi's book and reserving the right to change her mind if convinced by the very rare commodity in Somalia known as the
"unadulterated facts'

Best part? I'm hearing the book will be published in af-Somali which would hopefully make it more about substance and less about semantics.

lol @ my bias. I'm sure you're coming from an objective place
I'm not against hearing AY's side of the story. If you were to go to the first page of this thread, you could find my post where I voiced my support of this new book. I was a bit taken aback by the part where you said, "history should be preserved from the perspective of those who made it happen" hence my Hitler remark. If Hitler were the one to decide what's preserved for posterity, I'm sure he would paint himself as an angel fighting against the combined forces of Bolshevism and international Jewry. Ideally, history should be free from subjectivity as much as possible.
I agree with all of your other points though.
