A great Personal statement does not have to have perfect English; sometimes you can give this 'trying too hard', 'smart wannabe' or elitist vibe, this is especially negative if your grades or reference do not reflect what your writing. You want you want to come out as normal and balanced as much as possible, not have stupid cliches, quotes of philosophers or go on about repeating your achievement, or the worst part i 'always was/wanted'. Remember keep it balanced and normal everything you write has an angle and interpretations.

I recently completed my Uni Personal statement and shit was tough as hell because 1) i had no job experience in course 2) i didnt have it as a hobby as in i had no personal experience 3) didn't have the predicted grades to write super awesome stuff about my performance c 4) applied for 4 different courses (that was worst part) 5) i went on no trips that i could could relate it to. So i had to streamline everything, i gave off a very anonymous vibe in my personal statement, but then that was the sacrifice.

In your personal statement start off by talking about your interests, starting off is the difficult before you uncontrollably write about your life and achievements, find different ways in which you can start and relate it to different experience which may have sparked or contributed to that. Again, little to no cliches. If you can get over that part then the rest will be piece of cake, unless your like me.

hmm, that's odd. In America its fairly standard.

Do not upload a txt file some grad schools will search keywords of select statements for plagiarism and even though you can prove its your account your better off with the smoothest possible admissions cycle. Is there a word count max??? This is really long.

Dear Grad School:

I have always been called ‘stupid’. I don’t know why, perhaps it’s because of my inability to ever think independently or perhaps it’s because I failed out of a STEM program in college and then replaced it with a lame liberal arts degree. At first this epithet damaged my self esteem; indeed I didn’t want to be thought of as ‘the stupid one’. But over the years, I’ve come to embrace my stupidity. It doesn’t hinder me in my job as an ice cream factory security guard, nor does it distinguish me in any significant way from the majority of working class Americans. In fact, I’ve become so comfortable with my stupidity that I often project it whenever I’m given the chance, especially on the online forum which I am a moderator of. My philosophy is that to hold your stupidity inside you is to embrace it, to cling to it, to protect it. But when you expose your stupidity, you give yourself the chance to have it caught, corrected, and replaced with wisdom by smarter people (like union on SomaliNet forums). I hope by entering your institution, that my stupidity will be caught, corrected, and replaced with wisdom….perhaps with your help I may one day escape my prison of intellectual bankruptcy.

Is it a thesis proposal that you want to write? or a letter of motivation?

The most important part of a thesis proposal is the introduction (be general and specific at the same time; attract the reader's attention. The first sentence should catch the attention of laymen), aim; this should be deduced from the introduction (in some cases, you should have research questions., literature review (don't kill your darlings, cite some old references but focus on the latest literature; pros and cos of the literature and make sure you are seen in the text; be broad in the first part and specific in the last parts) and methodology (discuss the pros and cons); and finally a project plan with milestones.

If it is a motivational letter, be yourself; discuss your socio-economic background; your goals in life etc.
