I never celebrate NYE (even looking out of the window makes me sick, congestion, boozed up people, groping etc) but I do have a great fireworks night on November 5th (Guy fawkes Night). No-one is celebrating, its just a national/public holiday...you have a day off, what else do you do? You go see your friends and family for some fun, you dont have to drink or do anything haram.

Too much calaacal about gaalo Wallahi. If I lived in China, I'd celebrate their new years along with the Islamic new years. Idk why you guys always have to attack every event from the gaalo or religious angle. Like birthdays for example, "only gaalos do it." It's OK to celebrate July 1st but its a "gaalo thing" to celebrate the 4th of July. Quit acting that way and be open minded for once.
