Has any of you claiming it belongs to Absame ever been to Gosha? How the fuck can Absame that neither do large scale subsistence farming, nor fish the rivers ever survive in the freaking equivalent of the Amazon? With mosquitos the size of baseballs, and flesh eating fleas swarming every corner of every square inch? How can camels survive in such climate? When it rains non-stop weeks at a time? With humidity easily in the 90% for months on end? Ma la iska hadlaayaa? Absame already has enough lands to make something out of without claiming other peoples lands. Umaddaan masaakiinta ah who have lived and farmed these lands ha la dhaafo. They're the only segment of our society who know the land and know what it takes to live in it. It's a no brainer. Neither Absame, nor any other clan except the Mushungula & a tiny Sheikhaal minority can claim this land.

Btw - mareereey is a common plant in these parts, thus the name.

We lived in Jilib when I was around 8-9. Very few ethnic Somalis lived there. Most were there for the Mareereey processing plant & later the Fanole project. Only someone who has seen the place and has witnessed what it takes to survive in it can claim whatever they want. Snakes, mosquitos, ticks, fleas, crocks, etc. If the malaria doesn't kill you, the fleas & ticks will kill your camels. The Chinese workers brought there for the dam fared better than most ethnic Somalis that weren't native to the region. Reer Gosha were very adapted & settled. They farmed & fished. They knew their environment very well and thrived. Malaria? Never an issue for them, because they knew what river fish to consume & what plants to light up, etc to keep the mosquitos away. While we never slept a night without a net. Camels can not survive in such environment. The river divided the two camps. On one side were the Reer Gosha & Kun Yaasiin ku mood, the other side was settled by smaller population of ethnic Somalis who farmed, raised chickens, etc. I know this land.
