True, I never understood, why parents, aunts, uncles, etc. cared so much that the girl was older.

Because they fear that she would put you on lock for fear of marrying a second thus there will be an atmosphere of suspicion from the lady if she has insecurities thus your family members will be barred from getting into contact with you.
