Walee waxbaa isbedeley! A few years ago, 1/1, 26/6, 1/7 and 21/10 were the dates almost all somalis were born. March was out of the question. As regards age, soomaalidda maanta maba dhaafaan 25 (with that logic, your are old ). I think, the new generation (who were born in SOmalia/refugee camps etc) have found a smart way to calculate their age; x-21 (where x is the true age and 21 is the lost years (somali war).

WestN; Actually that is not true. What happens is that body fats diminishes as most of us grow older and the body'sstructure changes. As this process happens it looks like your nose and ears are growing.

I was avoiding opening this topic for the longest. My mind was in the gutter, once I noticed it wasn't moved to the extreme was when I knew it was safe to open!

lam, what age scientist say is adulthood? 18? 21 ? or earlier/later years? cause i just turned 21 and i swear i got taller past couple months.lol

I just turned 21 too on february and I think I got an inch since then.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. 18-22 I think should be the growth period for boys. Girls too, although they mostly stop growing height wise when they reach 15-16.

Because of our inherited environment- milleu- most of us somalis mature rather late. We are nomads and Allah made sure that we could adapt to the harsh semi-arid environment. Some will call this evolutionary adaptation. We have for instance smaller chest (chicken breast) , spaghetti legs and sound like we are killing each other when we are talking. I have seen successive studies done on Somali women in the west and the conclusion was that they unintentionally starve the fetuses because their fallopian tubes (passages) are not made for big bodies. You may have also witnessed that many East Africans are good at long distance running because their lungs have been made to sparsely utilize air.

Equally, studies have found (and you could verify this if you look around) somalis born in the west are taller and sometimes display signs of obesity than those of us who were born in Africa; malnutrition, child diseases etc have certainly played a big role.

In strict biological terms maturity (the sign of adulthood) commences when a human being can reproduce (germination) including the production of gametes. This could be delayed if there is a nutritional problem or childhood diseases.
There has been significant rise in male maturity during the last 30 years or so. So, my guess is that adulthood is in the range of 16-23 depending on the history of the person.

P.s Note that I am using maturity and adulthood interchangeably but they could be different.
