i believe they made a strategic mistake, recognition has proved difficult to achieve if you are a muslim state seceding from another muslim state or if you are a muclim state seceding from a non muslim state, they should have seen this and adjusted their strategy.
bamako was wide open, the army in disarray, they could have sliced them open and feasted,
proclaiming independance and sitting in azawad was a mistake.
