New Report Sheds Light on Increase in Autism

Posted on: 10:41 pm, March 29, 2012, by Melissa Reid, updated on: 10:44pm, March 29, 2012

CLEVELAND — According to the Cleveland Clinic Center for Autism, a new report is shedding light on the dramatic increase in the number of children being diagnosed with autism.

“The CDC released the numbers of autism being a diagnosis of one in 88 children being diagnosed. And one in 54 boys affected by that diagnosis,” said Francine Dimitriou, assistant director with the Center for Autism.
That is a 23% increase since the last time the report was done, which means autism is nearly twice as common as the CDC said it was only five years ago.

“We can attribute some of the increase due to we are getting better at diagnosing. We are identifying younger. We are identifying more mild- and high-functioning cases,” said Dr. Leslie Speer, a clinical psychologist with the Center for Autism.

“People are getting the word out about autism. So that pediatricians and doctors and psychologists are more aware about autism and the signs,” said Allison Benedict, assistant director with the Center for Autism.

The Center for Autism says the most important thing parents can do is act quickly whenever they have a concern about their child’s development.
“With education for parents and professionals, children are being diagnosed at an earlier age, and the positives from that is they can get early intervention and assistance,” said Dimitriou.

“It is pretty clear that there is some genetic component to autism but we don’t know what environmental component plays a role. There’s a lot we know about autism but there’s a lot we don’t know. So we need to keep learning and researching,” added Dr. Speer.

Romance comes in different forms, a flower is one way, but I prefer this way to show my deep affection for a woman

Do like people showing you love symbolically or physically
I rather have a hug then a flower

ps: I believe naughtiness is purest form of honesty

Minneapolis? Sorry, I only operate in the UK. But I'm willing to post the flowers and xalwad - although I can't vouch for their condition on arrival.

ALSO IT'S £2.50 FOR POSTAGE AND STAMPS.

The centuries of emotional repression were probably a contributing factor to the civil war. #realtalk
