Why don't you just visit a family its better for you, of course you will have to deal with 1st, 2nd cousins and your aunts, uncles, but you will have a week or 2 in a different world, and if you plan well you can enjoy your travel to the fullest.
Though staying with relatives is far, far cheaper, I wouldn't bother. Any Somali woman who stays at a random eedo's house is under constant scrutiny. Male visitors can lounge around, but my god, if a female visitor doesn't make haste in volunteering to clean the bathroom or make laxoox, you'll hear nothing but lamentations against her character. "Allah, Hablaayo's daughter's staying with me, and
walle she's so useless!" Then there's the fact that you're extra suspicious if you leave the house at night, or spend a day out.
No thank you. I'd rather dish out extra money for a hotel/hostel and live in peace.

Live in peace or live in shameful sin.

But then if your relatives KNOW you're in town and that you've chosen a hotel over them, they're going to think that you're a dh
ilo.
"Why isn't Heblaayo staying with us? Bal yaab, inanta maxay qarinaysaa?"
Women are fucked either way.

Right. Continued monetary gain is incentive not to kill you. I think BednBreakfasts/couchsurfing is much the same. But reviews are necessary.

You guys are paranoid, the cons of my original post was a joke. The people on couch surfing websites go through a lot of backround checks. Murders and rapists aren't going to sign up on these websites and deal with that kind of scrutiny. Besides, most of the people offering a spare room are travelers themselves. They just want to help out the traveling community.

alpha you can never trust people you don't know whoever they might be...but people with business are likely less 'dangerous' than some strangers on the internet and as I heard this couch-surfing thing is free. everyone can do advertise on those websites and this must be like a heaven for rapists and all kind of wierdo

Couch surfing, from what I know, is a service that you pay into. But you must be able to provide a couch as well. What I think the OP was referring was something called air bednbreakfast. That isn't free and usually costs $100/night in major cities, for renting an entire apartment or house. I really don't know what Aasli is referring to exactly.
Money talks more than most things.
