If you think you deserved a lower mark, then they bell curved it. They increase marks of students when they realize the average is too low. Stats does that. The rule is to never have the class average below a C or C+.
Where do you live? I've never heard of bell-curve in the UK.

Canada. Curving is sometimes a rule for some schools.
