This has nothing to do with being Sacad or Ciise Muse. As the Saaxil province is a very diverse region you'll find there Habar Yoonis & Habar Jeclo villages as well the same thing can be said about their presence in Berbera it's self. As the deputy mayor is HY and mareeyaha ku xigeenka dekkada Berbera is Habar Jeclo. Over the last few years the Siilaanyo and Riyaale govt invested allot of money reconstructing Igal International airport as they reconstructed Berbera airport a several times over the past few years. The thing is galbeed is doing wel, imagine someone from northern america or Europe visiting is hometown in Sanaag? As Berbera - Ceerigaabo is a 500KM drive. It is time to look beyond Maroodi Jeex and Saaxil, the people from galbeed who got more than enough aid are self sufficient this day. While reer Bari are on their own and hugely depend on their qurbo joog.

A little bit work on constructing Ceerigaabo airport and it's ready to go, but unfortunately Saaxil and Maroodi Jeex are priority no.1.

I agree but i think the SL government is trying to make their capital cities look moderate, which is good, but the SDC development plan does inlcude the construction of Burco,Ceerigaabo and Las anod airports , inshallah we'll see a change by 2016

True, but there are more projects like that that are underway outside cities, like the Dawgo cad and the one between Burco-Oodweyne-Hargeisa compared to the ones inside cities which are non-existent :?

Firstly $10 million to rehabilitate 2 national airports is peanuts. Berbera has one of the longest runways in Africa and is in a pretty good condition. Hargeisa's runway is much shorter a fair bit older and is generally not in a good condition. Modern runways cost more than $1 billion to construct. The $10 million donated will not even nearly complete the extension required for Hargeisa, so why not invest in the infrastructure at Berbera where there already is a long runway that can be used by even the largest jet-engined aircraft. Investing in Hargeisa Airport for now would not be value for money unless the runway is completely rebuilt and extended.

I wasn't aware that modern runways are that expensive but my arguement was it is a bad idea to divide that small amound of money between two airports that each need a huge investment of its own. If at the momment, because of its long runway, Berbera airport is better positioned to utilise this investment more efficiently then It should get 100% of it. Hargeisa iyo magalooyinka kale marka wax ku filan loo hela ayaa eerbodadoolada la dhisi doonaa laakin imika berbera ka fuudhyeel

A 19th century Japan (with no natural resources) was able to build extensive railway system all over their colonies and empire, including the famous Manchuria Railway. While a 21st century Somali (with a lot of natural resources at his disposal) can't even build roads in his own capital city.

What that says is an indhayar with virtually nothing can do a lot, and a somali with a lot can't do jack-shit.

abdi natural resources mean shit.

what you need is human resources.

19th century japan had high literacy and a crafts industry making everything they need, and a society that respected craftsmen.
They succeeded because they had the right leadership that new what they were doing.

1. avoid foriegn loans at all cost
2. buy , steal obtain as much technology as possible and keep the economy in their control

this is why japan developed faster than the Ottomans, when the ottomans had a head start of 30 years, better educated administration and engineers and a more modern armed forces.
what fuked the ottomans were the "capitulations" enforced on them forcing to accept huge high interest loans, and very low tarrifs preventing protection of infant industries.

Somalis look down on crafts men as untouchable scum, and will not marry from them call the midgo, tumaal etc etc.

foget about somalia, look at Eritrea!!!

they built hundreds of kilometeres of good roads on their own without any help..

to build a road you need

1.engineers we have 10 timjes more engineers than eritrea
2. equipment . we have greater access to foriegn currency to buy this equipment.
3. cheap labour. eritrea mobilzes its army and unemployed tens of thousands of them, while we have hundreds of thousands without work chewing qaat and engaing in fadhi ku di dirir.

the main difference is organization.

even without any resources what so ever you can do allot more than somaliland with the right organization.

True, but things are changing now - we're in the the 21st century for god's sake. And even the japanese had a caste of 'untouchable' craftsmen that were considered filth. I agree with the Human resources though, a highly educated and skilled population can do wonders for an economy that natural resources can't. Just compare the Gulf arab countries to South Korea or Taiwan. But surely the natural resources, if used smartly, can give the country a extra boost. For instance, the revenue that is generated by the country from - say coal export - can be used to train workers at a steel factory for instance, and thus we'll be able to produce our own steel.

But how do we train and educate or population, that is the question? Everyday I keep hearing several hundred engineers and doctors graduating from Somaliland universities, but what do they do once they graduate? Sit in a Maqaaxi all day?

you cant compare burakamin to the tumal, crafts men were highly regarded in japan, and the metal smith especially a swordsmith was extra special, if he is good, he can charge whatever he wants and marry from
the highest caste families. While the burakamin only worked in taking care of the dead, garbage disposal and the leather industry that japanese found offensive.

What can we do with our graduates?
we should put them to work.

We can use the model used across the world, even the early United States.
We could have a corps of engineers in the army and they coulod be building bridges , roads and ports just like they did in the 1800's.

We could also make use of our unemployed, conscription.
our army is 20,000 and is of little use because only about a 1/3 have any experience and they are not skilled enough.

The army should be reformed to become a professional force of 5000to 7000 men.
supported by conscription of 15,000 to 20,000.

The conscipts could be used in labour for roads, housing, agricultural infrastructure like dams and undergouround canals for catchment of heavy rains and seasonal rivers.

There is allot of work to be done, more than enough labour and more than enough money to do it.
we dont have the organization.

for example, a new road from Erigavo to burco will cost around $50 million dollars at the lowest possible price, take 3 years if we do it the current way, maybe longer because we need to wait for doners.

id it the Eritrean way, we could get it done in under a year, costing $10 million dollars and using 3000 workers.
$10 million is more than enough to pay for the equipment the petrol/diesel and the aphsalt.

the 3000 workers if they are conscripts can be payed $25 to $30 a month and half that amount extra for their food and accommodation.

You know I had the same idea, except instead we have a standing army of 50,000 and a conscript of another 50,000 - making the total 100,000. The problem is as you said organization and perspective. Right now, Isaaq see their faulty democracy as some sort of achievement when in reality it's just travelling backwards. Under 'democracy' we have achieved absolutely nothing in the way of development. While under a dictatorship tiny Eritrea has made leaps. Even though I don't agree with some of it's policies, it makes Somalis look like brain-dead animals. Do you think under a capable dictator we'd be squabbling over 100 political parties, grown men crying because their party sacked them, an entire sub-clan (I won't mention any names) refusing an ivestor because of tribal affiliations? No, because a dictator would tell them to stfu and do what he says.
