So the difference is not the pronunciation but the ending of the word

1. Beer= liver (read normally) 2. Beer (think of saying an incredulous 'No', sort of like 'Noooo', well that is how it is stretched)

*it would be easier to explain with the knowledge of mandarin tones*

you dont know somali language have gender pronunciations that can change the meaning of a word :o

Example: Beer, if you give it a femanine pronunciation it means farm in english. If you give same word a maculine pronunciation it becomes liver.
This is true.

Samatar or Key should post a voice recording for this complicated Beer fiasco.

to the OP your theories are funny but some of the are incorrect.

like bari (east) and berri ( tomorrow) don't even sound the same.

and koonfur is maybe a newer word, old people use hawd as south.

anyway here are some words.

Hargeysa= hargo geys ,meel hargaha la geeyo

cadaan= white, could be from cadceed which gives light

foodad= head cover. , food, means upper part of the forehead and dad means to cover,

hudheedh= second hand clothes, comes apparently from the english words who is dead

waashman= from watch man

or waardiye wich is also a guard, and is somalisezed word of guard/guardian.

 beer is not a good example, as both pronunciations are almost identical...st least when I try to say it out loud. I'll try to think of another example.

I think he's refering to the tonal difference. An example would be Inan=boy and Inan=girl. The word for girl has a slightly higher tone.

For me "Beer" is liver and "Beer" - which has a slightly higher tone - is field/meadow/farmland.

In chinese, "ma" mean mum and "ma" means horse.

Yeah, precisely. Its easier to explain if are familiar with all four tones in Chinese Mandarin.

Anyways, I'm bored. My attempt at explaining.
