i think this is the only thing Somalis benefited from the war.
Somalis still drink alcohol till this day, nothing has changed, if anything it's getting worse. It's brought in from Ethiopia, hijacked ships etc. It's a big business apparently, alcohol smuggling business.

I don't think so. There were habitual drinkers from those (military, civilian) who were trained in Italy during the 50s, those who were trained in the Soviet during the 60s/70s and those influenced by Western culture during thoe 70s/80s. There were many nightclubs for drinking and tumasho. It wasn't uncommon sighting an alkoliiste from time to time. There were also vagabonds who used to drink pure alcohol (I think they used to heat it, to dilute), the kind of alcohol you use to rub on a wound.

If anything, I think the only civility that came out of this civil war is secularism and open mindedness. Still a long way to go, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel for us to save us from mad mullahs and religious fanatics.....

Looking forward to sipping a cold lager in one of Somalia's virgin beaches soon without worrying a mad man will terrorize me.
