His foreign policy was a disaster: cutting off USSR ties, entering an unnecessary war with Ethiopia, hiring poorly skilled diplomats like Buluqbuluq to raise support for the Somali cause. His best times were from 1969 to 1976. He did a lot of good work then until the disastrous 77 war.

I agree 100%. Siyaad's greatest failure was when he cut ties with USSR. He also failed when he resettled Ogadeens in Isaaq territories, even after the Isaaq civilians asked the government to resettle the Somali Galbeed Ogadeens in Daarod territories because they were not getting along.

We were a respected nation ones and the pride of Africa.

We have no one but to blame ourselves for focking it up, unlike some people I believe every group had a hand in the destruction of the Somalia.

While somebody who was the head of a country for 20 plus yrs will have done something good, MSB was a disaster to Somalis. The good thing is Somalis don't look the causes but the events. No body asked him self what caused this.

Those of u who read books, u can read J. M . Qalib's book " Th cost of dictatorship: Somali experience".

Thuganomics wrote:Siad Barre, was the only head of state to attend Mozambique's independence celebrations.

MSB also sent martial reinforcements to assist the government of Samora Machel against Rhodesian and Portuguese forces. Rhodesian guerrillas in Maputo at the time "bragged to Portuguese correspondents that Somali tanks will be used in future operations against Ian Smith’s forces.

- In their struggle against the Rhodesians, Zambia appealed to other African countries for military support. On the 27th of June 1977, President Kenneth David Kaunda speaking to a crowd of Zambians in Lusaka announced that Somalia's armed forces were prepared to aid his country against the Rhodesians. Somali Air Force pilots stood on standby to fly Zambian Migs in case of a war.

MSB lent support to various anti-colonial movements, including the rebellion in South Africa against that country's then ruling apartheid government.

- As chairman of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1974, a rotating seat, MSB invited the ANC as an equal member and gave them a platform to have their voices heard.

MSB also trained South African guerillas and gave them access to military hardware and naval assets

.(Sadly he also sent SA mercenary pilots to blow up HRG)
glory days
the people of hargeisa were liberated from foreign intruders like Mozambique

I dream every day to be one of those pilots
my top gun moment involves bombing hargeisa

Funny how your people are getting bombed today.
If I weren't a free man I'd wish misery on others as well.

Conqerer, what your'e saying saxib is complete bullcrap, you don't bomb the 2nd largest somali city to 'capture' a handful of rebels, look at most documented SNM videos on youtube you'll see they are always in the miyi, they started an offense on all strategic cities in Somaliland, from the fall of Erigaabo, until when Hargeisa was liberated, how would you explain the video of Hargeisa under siege as the SNA mount canons on the mountains above Hargeisa whilst shelling civilians to death? SNM was a retaliation force, if Siad Barre equally treated Somalis the SNM would've have started in the first place. Bear in mind that the SNM was a unionist movement at first, but in 1991 decided to split back into it's 1960 borders. :stylin:
