http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equal_Rights_Amendment
"Critchlow and Stachecki say the anti-ERA movement was based on strong support among Southern whites, Evangelical Christians, Mormons, Orthodox Jews, and Roman Catholics, including both men and women.[26]"
The US Congress actually passed an Equal Rights Amendment to the US Constitution in 1963, but it was ratified by only 35 of the necessary 38 states and failed to become law. The Mormon Church fought the ERA, preventing ratification in Utah and Arizona, and getting ratification rescinded in Idaho. The other main block of states that refused to ratify was the so-called Bible Belt, which tends to be Evangelical. See the map in the article. These are all folks with a relatively conservative religious base, some of whom are now being called Teavangelicals as they hybridize with the right wing of the Republican party.
Read the Wiki article. Equal pay for equal work is part of US labor law, with some discrepancies still noted. Women get 80% of what men get, but more men work in industries with paid overtime and more women work in white collar jobs that pay flat salaries.
It is worth noting that 35 of 48 states did ratify the amendment.

Such a breath of fresh air in a world stifling with feminists.

Ann Romney is a keeperFAH1223 wrote:http://www.freewoodpost.com/2012/04/18/ ... al-to-men/
“Why should women be paid equal to men? Men have been in the working world a lot longer and deserve to be paid at a higher rate. Heck, I’m a working mom and I’m not paid a dime. I depend on my husband to provide for me and my family, as should most women… and if a woman does work, she should be happy just to be out there in the working world and quit complaining that she’s not making as much as her male counterparts. I mean really, all this wanting to be equal nonsense is going to be detrimental to the future of women everywhere. Who’s going to want to hire a woman, or for that matter, even marry a woman who thinks she is the same, if not better than a man at any job. It’s almost laughable. C’mon now ladies, are you with me on this?”
